Global Wind Day is celebrated annually on 15 June. It is a day for making people aware of wind power.
In more than 80 countries around the world, wind farms are in operation, generating energy from a clean and renewable source.
On Global Wind Day is the day, wind farms are open for visits by curious people and experts are ready to meet them.
The European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) coordinate the Global Wind Day through a network of partners. The day started as a European one in 2007 and went Global in 2009.
Wind energy is a mature and mainstream technology and one of the fastest growing industrial sectors in the world with almost $100 billion invested in 2014. In the EU alone, the wind industry installed more than gas and coal combined in 2014 and the cumulative installed capacity meets 10.2% of the region's electricity consumption,

In June 2015, India stands at the fifth position globally, in terms of wind power capacity. The installed capacity of wind power in India has reached 23,444 MW. Wind power plants are iin Tamilnadu, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.
Government of India has set up a target of 60 MW by 2022.
