World Contraception Day - 26 September

World Contraception Day takes place on September 26th every year. The annual worldwide campaign centers around a vision where every pregnancy is wanted. Launched in 2007, WCD’s mission is to improve awareness of contraception and to enable young people to make informed choices on their sexual and reproductive health.

World Contraception Day is supported by a coalition of 12 international Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), governmental organizations and scientific and medical societies with an interest in sexual and reproductive health and is sponsored by Bayer HealthCare.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) joins the international community in celebrating World Contraception Day, a global campaign to draw attention to the vast unmet need for contraceptive information and services.  Increasing access to a wide-range of family planning methods enables individuals and couples to determine whether, when, and how often to have children, which has profound health, economic, and social benefits for families and communities.

As a means to improve health and quality of life, USAID advances and supports voluntary family planning and reproductive health programs in nearly 40 countries across the globe. These programs are designed to protect individuals' rights to affordable and quality family planning commodities. USAID has been involved in the development of nearly every contraceptive method on the market today.

International Day of Charity - 5 September

_______________

Charity contributes to the promotion of dialogue, solidarity and mutual understanding ‎among people.‎

Poverty persists in all countries of the world, ‎regardless of their economic, social and cultural situation, particularly in developing countries.

In recognition of the role of charity in alleviating humanitarian crises and human ‎suffering within and among nations, as well as of the efforts of charitable organizations ‎and individuals, including the work of Mother Teresa, the General Assembly of the ‎United Nations in its resolution A/RES/67/105 dated 17 December 2012 document designated the 5th of September, the ‎anniversary of the death of Mother Teresa, as the International Day of Charity.‎

On this International Day of Charity, the United Nations invites all Member States and all international and regional organizations, as well as civil society, including non-governmental organizations and individuals, to commemorate the Day in an appropriate manner, by encouraging charity, including through education and public awareness-raising activities.

“Charity plays an important role in upholding the values and advancing the work of the United Nations,” Mr. Ban said in his message for the Day, which will be observed annually on 5 September.

he added. “Let us recognize charity for what it is at heart: a noble enterprise aimed at bettering the human condition.”

At the UN Headquarters in New York, the Permanent Mission of Hungary - in cooperation with the Department of Public Information, the UN Development Programme (UNDP), UN Office for Partnerships (UNOP) and the UN Foundation - is organizing two panel discussions to highlight the importance of non-profit organizations in development. The two discussions will concentrate on the role of charity in water and sanitation, and poverty alleviation and eradication issues.
