International Day of Happiness - 20 March

About the Happiness Day

The General Assembly of the United Nations in its resolution 66/281 of 12 July 2012 proclaimed 20 March the International Day of Happiness recognizing the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings around the world and the importance of their recognition in public policy objectives.

Speaking at the High Level Meeting on "Happiness and Well-Being: Defining a New Economic Paradigm" convened during the sixty-sixth session of the General Assembly the Secretary General Ban Ki-moon stated that the world “needs a new economic paradigm that recognizes the parity between the three pillars of sustainable development. Social, economic and environmental well-being are indivisible. Together they define gross global happiness.”  The meeting was convened at an initiative of Bhutan, a country which recognized the supremacy of national happiness over national income since the early 1970s and famously adopted the goal of Gross National Happiness over Gross National Product.

This year’s International Day of Happiness is focused on Climate Action for a Happy Planet.

The best way to celebrate this International Day of Happiness is by taking action to alleviate suffering. In this spirit, let us use this occasion to renew a global spirit of solidarity to create a safer, more prosperous and more sustainable future for all.

A Poem Written by Me - May be appropriate for Global Spirit of Solidarity

I am Indian
taught by Divine
I believe in union
with God and his Creation

I guard the ground of my own
that does not mean fight with alien
I help my brothern
does not mean rest of  the world I disown

I am ready to help people anywhere
always help neighbours to prosper
I take care of  my land's weak labour
its only makes world stronger

Global trade should not mean disaster
competition should not mean human hunger
share your means and live till God's desire
I am an Indian who wants world's welfare

God - 7 Billion Others

I agree with it. All spiritual people have to take care of others.

World Poetry Day - 21 March

About World Poetry Day

Every year on 21 March UNESCO celebrates the World Poetry Day. A decision to proclaim 21 March as World Poetry Day was adopted during the UNESCO’s 30th session held in Paris in 1999.

According to the UNESCO’s decision, the main objective of this action is to support linguistic diversity through poetic expression and to offer endangered languages the opportunity to be heard within their communities. Moreover, this Day is meant to support poetry, return to the oral tradition of poetry recitals, promote teaching poetry, restore a dialogue between poetry and the other arts such as theatre, dance, music, painting and so on, support small publishers and create an attractive image of poetry in the media so that the art of poetry will no longer be considered an outdated form of art but one.

My Poem in Telugu Written on 21.3.2012

ఉగాది పండుగ వస్తోంది - ఉత్సాహాన్ని తెస్తోంది Ugadi Panduga Vastondi

World Day of the Fight Against Sexual Exploitation - 4th March

Every year since 2009, 4th March has been designated as World Day of the Fight Against Sexual Exploitation.

It has been estimated that every second of the day an average of eight women, girls and often young boys, are trapped by international criminal networks where the sole aim is to sexually exploit them, traffic them and enslave them.

This process obviously robs them of their basic human rights, including their right to freedom, their dignity, their right to live where they choose and the right to control their own bodies.

Although the problem is a worldwide one, some places are more vulnerable than others. These include areas in Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe and some Latin American and Caribbean countries.

UNICEF estimates that more than 3 million children worldwide are affected by prostitution and that children make up more than a third of all sex workers in Asia.

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) estimates that nearly a million people are trafficked every year for purposes of sexual exploitation.

World Day of the Fight Against Sexual Exploitation sets out to draw attention to this major worldwide problem.

World Book Day Appeal to Parents

Dear Parent or Carer

World Book Day takes place on Thursday 3 March 2016, and we would like to invite you
to join us in helping your child to make the most of this special occasion.

World Book Day celebrates the joy and value of books and reading, especially for children.
Please help your child to go to a local bookshop or library on this day.

Nurseries, schools and libraries across the World celebrate World Book Day with a huge range of
events and activities. You can help in building your child’s enthusiasm for books well beyond World Book Day by reading together regularly.

Children are never too young to start their journey with books, and the benefits of reading are
enormous—so we hope you will use World Book Day to celebrate it with your child.

With best wishes for getting the best benefit from books.
