UNO declared 21 June as International Day of Yoga
WHY YOGA DAY? - TO PROMOTE HEALTH OF PEOPLE ACROSS THE WORLD.
UNO in its resolution said
Recognizing that yoga provides a holistic approach to health and well-being,
Recognizing also that wider dissemination of information about the benefits of practising yoga would be beneficial for the health of the world population,
UNO Decides to proclaim 21 June the International Day of Yoga.
Hatha Yoga is a programme of postures to improve health and focus.
It is not a religious ritual. Swamy Vivekananda said so. A religious sansyasi only learns some postures so that he can sit in that posture for hours together to do rituals. A hatha yogi lives for hundred years without any religious activity.
Yoga is now embraced internationally as a physical activity that improves health.
